Hardy lilac species native to China and Korea. Noted for being one of the first lilacs to bloom in spring, usually a week or two before common lilac. Flowers are fragrant, rosy purple to lavender, and held in large clusters that cover the branches. Shrubs grow 8 to 12 feet tall with a rounded habit. Leaves are broad, dark green, and often take on red to purple fall color. Very tolerant of cold climates and adaptable to a wide range of soils. Useful as an ornamental shrub for early season fragrance and as a pollinator plant.
Hardiness: Zone 3
