Ben Hope Black Currant (Ribes nigrum 'Ben Hope')

Ben Hope is a vigorous black currant with high yields, developed by the Scottish Crop Research Institute. It is a cross between 'Westra' and another complex hybrid, bred for hardiness and productivity. The upright bush reaches 4-5 ft (about 1.5 m) tall.

Its medium sized berries have classic black currant flavour and aroma and suit both culinary and dessert uses. They ripen later in the season, typically from late July to early August, about 10 days after 'Ben Lomond'.

Ben Hope is noted for resistance to big bud mite, powdery mildew, and leaf spot, making it useful for organic gardens and gardens with fewer inputs.
