Amur Grape is native to the Amur River region of Russia, China, and Korea. It produces medium-sized, dark blue to black grapes with a tart, tangy flavor. The fruit is often used in winemaking, especially for cold-climate wines, and can be eaten fresh or used in preserves. The grapes have relatively high sugar content for a wild grape.  It can grow up to 25-30 feet in length, with large, deeply lobed leaves that turn brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow in the fall.

Both Vitis amurensis and Vitis riparia (the wild Riverbank Grape) are excellent choices for cold climates, and the Amur Grape offers greater ornamental appeal with its brilliant fall color and is better suited for winemaking due to its higher sugar content.

The Amur Grape is particularly valued for its exceptional cold hardiness, surviving temperatures as low as -40°F (-40°C), making it suitable for climates as harsh as Zone 3. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, and is adaptable to a wide range of soil types, including sandy, loamy, and clay soils. This vine is a popular choice for covering trellises, arbors, or fences, providing both shade and ornamental appeal.

In addition to its landscape uses, Amur Grape is gaining popularity among wine enthusiasts and growers looking for hardy, disease-resistant grape varieties. It is also appreciated in permaculture for its ability to provide a high yield in challenging climates.
