A closer look
White Spruce
White spruce is a familiar choice for an evergreen planting in Manitoba. Although it grows across a broad range of soils, stagnant water can damage its shallow root system.
Engelmann Spruce
Engelmann spruce grows naturally at higher elevations in western North America. It has a narrow conical crown and small cylindrical cones, and favours cool, moist conditions.
