Hardy Berries and Currants: Summer Field Notes
Field note · August 2026
Skunk currant seedlings
skunk currants, Ribes glandulosum started from seed collected last summer. the fruit on this plant is bright red and has interesting spikey glands. I was impressed that the seed germinated, the fruit were picked unripe and just left to dry out in the greenhouse. so easy to grow from seed it seems, though I usually start them from cuttings. this is a very unique native plant with a spreading ground covering shape and the coolest looking fruit, a good addition to a native plant garden.
