Purple gooseberry fully ripe at the end of August

purple gooseberry, our old homestead unknown variety, fully ripe at the end of august. this bush gets a hard pruning every spring and still grows back like a monster. the combination of later ripening fruit and thorns with the vigorous growth make it likely that it's one of the older prairie cultivars, tricky to ID but as more gooseberries in our collection start to fruit I'll continue to make comparisons.
