Ussurian Pear Seeds (Pyrus ussuriensis) - Zone 3 - 40+ Seeds
Ussurian pear collected locally, our pear rootstock of choice and a large long lived shade tree, produces plentiful small pears for wildlife and people can also eat them, they’re just small. Also known as the Harbin Pear, considered the most cold hardy pear.
Native to northeastern Asia, including parts of Russia, China, and Korea, it thrives in cold climates and is well-suited for Canadian landscapes. This pear has oval, glossy green leaves that turn vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow in the fall. In early spring, clusters of white blossoms emerge, adding ornamental value. The small, round fruits ripen by late summer to early fall and are yellow-green, often with a hint of red blush. They are typically more astringent and tart than common pears, making them suitable for preserves and cider.
The Ussurian Pear prefers full sun and well-drained soils, tolerating a range of soil types including sandy, loamy, and clay.
