Silver Star Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides 'Silver Star') - Male Pollinator
‘Silver Star’ Sea Buckthorn is a male cultivar, primarily used as a pollinator for female sea buckthorn plants. Unlike female varieties, 'Silver Star' does not produce berries; instead, it produces flowers that release large amounts of pollen, which is essential for fertilizing nearby female plants to ensure a bountiful fruit harvest. One male plant can pollinate up to 6-8 female plants within a reasonable proximity.
‘Silver Star’ has attractive silvery-green foliage, adding ornamental value to the landscape. It is a hardy shrub with an upright growth habit, typically reaching a mature height and spread of 6-10 feet. Like other sea buckthorn varieties, it thrives in poor, sandy, or rocky soils and is highly drought-resistant once established. It is also well-suited to cold climates.
