Oregon Champion Gooseberry (Ribes uva-crispa 'Oregon Champion')
Oregon Champion Gooseberry is a robust cultivar known for its high productivity and excellent fruit quality. This mid-sized, thorny shrub produces small, green berries that ripen to a soft yellow-green with a tangy, sweet flavor perfect for jams, jellies, desserts, and fresh eating. Bred in Oregon in the early 1900s, it gained popularity for its vigorous growth and resistance to American gooseberry mildew, a common issue in other varieties. Compared to European gooseberry cultivars, Oregon Champion is more adaptable to a range of growing conditions, from partial shade to full sun, and is particularly well-suited to cool, moist climates.
