Ben Connan Black Currant (Ribes nigrum 'Ben Connan')
Ben Connan Black Currant (Ribes nigrum 'Ben Connan')
Ben Connan is a black currant cultivar bred by the Scottish Crop Research Institute, with parentage from 'Ben Lomond' and 'Ben Sarek'. It is an early to mid-season variety, producing berries about 4-5 days earlier than 'Ben Lomond' and has larger berries (around 16mm each). It's also more compact, growing to about 4 feet (1.2 meters) in height and spread. It has high yields and good disease resistance, making it ideal for home gardens. 'Ben Connan' is noted for its large fruit size and ease of picking due to its compact growth and manageable height.
