American Wild Plum (Prunus americana)
American Wild Plum (Prunus americana)
We have American Plum seedlings grown from seed collected locally in Manitoba. The American Plum produces small, round, red fruits that ripen in late summer. These plums are tart but can be eaten fresh or used for jams, jellies, and preserves. A good pollinator for other plum trees.
Native to central and eastern North America, the American Plum is well-suited to a range of soils, including sandy or loamy, and prefers full sun to partial shade. It can tolerate drought once established and is often used for naturalizing, windbreaks, or as a wildlife habitat, providing food and cover for birds and mammals.
