Valiant is one of the most cold hardy grape cultivars, tolerating temperatures near −40°C. Its medium dark blue seeded grapes ripen early and are used for juice, wine, and fresh eating.
Developed at South Dakota State University, Valiant combines native Vitis riparia with Vitis labrusca ancestry. The vigorous vines have moderate resistance to powdery mildew and downy mildew.
