The Superior plum (Prunus 'Superior') is a hybrid variety developed by the University of Minnesota in 1933. It is a cross between Japanese plum (Prunus salicina) and American plum (Prunus americana), combining the desirable traits of both species. Produces large, dark red plums with sweet, juicy yellow flesh. The fruit is clingstone, meaning the flesh clings to the pit. Harvest usually occurs in mid-August.
