The State Fair apple was introduced by the University of Minnesota in 1979. It's a cross between the Mantet and Oriole cultivars. The fruit is medium sized with bright red-striped skin over a yellow base, and has a crisp and juicy texture with an aromatic flavor. It's suitable for both fresh eating and baking. It has a relatively short storage life up to a month post harvest. This cultivar also contributed to the development of the Zestar! apple, released in 1999.
Cold Hardiness Zone: 3/4
