siberian stone pine, cleaning the seeds today. wow you get a lot of nuts in a cone, and they just crumble apart now that they’ve air dried. I used a board to sort out the pine nuts from the scales, the rounder nuts tend to roll into a pan first. now for 2 months warm then a few months cold stratification, in time for april/may in the greenhouse

The Siberian Stone Pine is a slow-growing evergreen tree native to the cold climates of Siberia and northeastern Asia. It typically reaches 10–20 meters at maturity, with a dense, conical crown. Its needles are soft, dark green, and grow in bundles of five, giving it a lush appearance. This tree produces edible seeds, often referred to as pine nuts, encased in woody cones that mature after 2–3 years. Adapted to harsh environments, it is tolerant of extreme cold, thriving in poor, acidic soils. It is highly valued for reforestation and windbreaks in northern climates and can live for centuries in suitable conditions.

Hardiness Zone: Zone 1
Seed Source: Manitoba
Stratification Required: 2 months warm followed by 3-4 months cold.
