September Ruby Apple Tree
September Ruby Apple Tree
The September Ruby apple cultivar is a modern variety originated from the Morden Research Station in Manitoba and introduced by Agriculture Canada Research Station in Beaverlodge Alberta in 1986, a cross between Rescue x Haralson. This cultivar is known for its exceptional hardiness, capable of withstanding extremely cold temperatures as low as -50°F or colder, and is also moderately resistant to fire blight, a common apple tree disease. September Ruby apples are praised for their red color and are described as crunchy, tasty, and tart, making them ideal for various uses including fresh eating, cooking in pies, and juicing. The parentage of this cultivar includes Rescue and Haralson apples, contributing to its hardy characteristics. It is well-suited for growth in cold climates, as evidenced by its successful cultivation in Alaska and being referred to as the "King of the North" due to its hardiness.
