Seedling Plums (Prunus sp.) - Zone 3
Seedling Plums (Prunus sp.) - Zone 3
We have seedling plums grown from a local plum tree. These seedlings may vary in growth habits, fruit size, and flavor and share some traits with the seed parent in the photos. They will share the cold hardy genetics.
While the specific fruit characteristics are unknown, these seedlings offer the potential for unique flavors and qualities, adding a bit of mystery and generic diversity to your orchard or garden. New plum cultivars are always discovered by planting seeds,. Another good option is to use them as a rootstock and graft on other plum cultivars.
We have 2 seed sources this year:
Pembina Seedling - seeds planted from Pembina plums
`Sokol` Seedling - just named for the tree's location, we're not sure what the cultivar is but included some photos (Purple with yellow flesh, clingstone, tasty)
Cold Hardiness Zone: 3
Seed Source: Manitoba
Mature Size: 15-20 ft
