Peking Cotoneaster Seeds (Cotoneaster acutifolius) - Zone 4 - 30+ Seeds
Peking Cotoneaster, is a deciduous shrub native to Siberia, Mongolia, and most of China. This species, belonging to the Rosaceae family, is characterized by its upright growth habit with a rounded top, typically reaching 6-10 feet in both height and width. The shrub is adaptable, growing well in moist, loamy, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. It is known for its tolerance to poor soils and drought conditions, once established.
The leaves of the Peking Cotoneaster are simple, alternate, and ovate, with a pubescent surface and dull green color, growing up to 5cm long. In spring, it produces small, 5-petaled flowers, white with pink tinges, adding a delicate touch to its appearance. By fall, the foliage turns a striking scarlet, making it a popular choice for adding autumnal interest to landscapes. The fruits, which evolve from green to red and eventually black, are persistent, providing visual interest even in colder months.
This resilient shrub thrives in well-drained soil and can adapt to full sun or partial shade environments. It's widely used for various landscaping purposes, including as an espalier, in group or mass plantings, mixed shrub borders, and as a sheared hedge. Its adaptability to different soil types and environmental conditions, such as urban pollution, makes it a suitable choice for diverse settings.
