Osage Orange Seeds

Osage Orange (Maclura pomifera) is a spiny deciduous tree native to river valleys of the south central United States. Male and female trees are separate, and female trees produce large wrinkled hedge apples that are not edible.

Indigenous peoples valued its heavy, strong, flexible yellow wood for making bows, giving the tree the name Bow Wood. The species tolerates poor soil, drought, heat, cold, and wind and has long been grown as a hedge or shade tree.
