Osage Orange Seeds (Maclura pomifera) - Zone 4 - 50+ Seeds

Osage Orange (Maclura pomifera) is a spiny deciduous tree native to river valleys of the south central United States. It grows 35 to 60 ft with a broad crown, orange brown bark, shiny green leaves, thorny twigs, and milky sap.

Male and female trees are separate. Female trees produce large wrinkled hedge apples, which are not edible. Osage Orange tolerates poor soil, drought, heat, cold, and wind and has long been grown as a hedge or shade tree.

Indigenous peoples valued its heavy, strong, flexible yellow wood for making bows, giving the tree the name Bow Wood.
