Nanking Cherry is a hardy, deciduous shrub native to Central Asia, perfect for cold climates. It produces an abundance of small, bright red cherries that ripen in early to mid-summer. The fruits have a tart-sweet flavor, ideal for fresh eating, jams, jellies, or making wine. In early spring, the shrub is covered with showy white to pink blossoms, adding ornamental value to the landscape and attracting pollinators.

Nanking Cherry thrives in full sun and is adaptable to various soil types, including sandy or clay soils, as long as they are well-drained. While the plant is drought-tolerant once established, it benefits from regular watering during dry periods. Nanking Cherry is self-sterile, so planting more than one bush enhances cross-pollination and boosts fruit production. Its hardiness and ability to tolerate temperatures down to -40°C make it an excellent choice for Canadian gardeners.

We have a few options ranging from seedlings to some propagated from softwood. You need at least two genetically different plants for good pollination, so a mix of our clonal plants and seedlings is a good choice. Or if you already have some nanking cherries in the area then you’re covered.
