Nanking Cherry is a cold hardy cherry bush native to Asia. The name Prunus tomentosa describes the fuzzy leave, which make it easy to distinguish from other sour cherries. It can produces a heavy amount half inch sized red cherries/drupes all along the branches, and in Manitoba they ripen in mid July. The fruit have a sweet/tart flavour, they're good to east fresh and work well for jelly, or pies and jam if you use a cherry pitter. They have some ornamental value, in the spring they can be completely covered in white flowers.
Nanking Cherry is considered self sterile, so plant more than one bush to get fruit. They can also cross pollinate with black nanking.
