Linden Viburnum Seeds (Viburnum dilatatum) - Zone 5 - 40+ Seeds
The Linden Viburnum, known as Viburnum dilatatum, is a deciduous shrub native to Japan, China, and Korea. It typically reaches a height of 8 to 10 feet and spreads 6 to 8 feet. This plant is appreciated for its creamy white flowers that bloom in late spring (May to early June), forming in showy, domed clusters. These flowers give way to ovoid bright red fruits (drupes) that mature in late summer to early fall and persist into early winter, attracting birds.
The leaves of the Linden Viburnum are orbicular to broad-ovate, dark green, and coarsely toothed, turning to shades of bronze, burgundy, and dull red in the fall. The shrub prefers moist loams but tolerates a wide range of soil types and has some drought tolerance once established. It can grow in full sun to partial shade and is often used in shrub borders, screens, foundations, or hedges.
Cold Hardiness Zone: 5
Seed Source: PA, USA (Zone 5b - 7a)
Stratification: 6 months warm followed by 2 - 4 months cold
Germinating: This species require a warm/moist stratification period during which the roots emerge, followed by a cold/moist period after which the shoots grow. It's crucial to provide both stratification periods to ensure successful germination of the seeds.
