Frostbite is a Minnesota apple first fruited in 1921 and introduced by the University of Minnesota in 2008. The small to medium fruit has maroon red colour over a yellow gold background and firm, juicy, cream coloured flesh.
The apples are very sweet, crisp, and intensely flavoured. Tasters have compared the unusual flavour with molasses, sugar cane, and other savoury or fermented notes. Fruit ripens from late September into the middle of October, usually after Honeycrisp, and is used fresh or in cider.
