Flax is a versatile, fast-growing annual known for its delicate blue flowers and slender stems. Cultivated for thousands of years, it is valued both for its seeds—used in food and oil production—and its fibers, which are woven into linen. The plant grows upright, reaching 1-3 feet in height, with narrow leaves and a graceful, airy appearance.

Native to the Middle East and parts of Europe, flax thrives in cool climates and well-drained soils, making it well-suited for Canadian growing conditions. It prefers full sun and matures in about 90-120 days, with flowers blooming for just one day before forming seed capsules. The seeds, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, are commonly used in baking, cereals, and oil extraction.
