Evans Cherry is a sour cherry rediscovered in Alberta, where it proved able to fruit in a demanding prairie climate. Its resilience and reliable crops helped make it popular with Canadian growers.
The tree produces abundant bright red cherries with a tart, full flavour. The fruit is used for pies, jam, and preserves.

Evans was selected in Alberta by Dr. Ieuan Evans, who recognised how well an old tree was fruiting in a hard prairie climate. Its reliable crops made it a favourite with prairie growers.
A tree, not a bush
Evans grows as a small tree, not a bush. It suckers strongly from the roots, especially where they have been disturbed. The suckers can be mown off or left to thicken the planting.
