Common Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius) is a North American shrub that grows 5 to 8 ft tall and 4 to 6 ft wide. Older stems develop peeling brown bark that exposes reddish inner layers.

Clusters of white to pink flowers open from late May into June, followed by red seed capsules that may remain into winter. The lobed green leaves turn bronze yellow in fall. Ninebark grows in sun or partial shade and tolerates wet sites, occasional drought, road salt, and varied soils. It can be used for hedges, screens, erosion control, or native shrub plantings.
