Common Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius) is a North American shrub known for peeling brown bark that exposes reddish inner layers.
Clusters of white to pink flowers open from late May into June, followed by red seed capsules that may remain into winter. The lobed green leaves turn bronze yellow in fall. Ninebark tolerates wet sites, occasional drought, road salt, and varied soils and can be used for hedges, screens, or erosion control.
