Carmine Jewel seedlings are grown from the named University of Saskatchewan cultivar. They will not be identical to Carmine Jewel, but sour cherry seedlings often retain useful fruit quality.
Carmine Jewel was bred from Mongolian cherry and sour cherry parentage. The named cultivar produces dark, nearly black cherries with high sugar and a tart edge, suited to fresh eating, pies, and preserves. It can begin fruiting while young, although seedlings may vary in all of these traits.
