Canadian Gooseberry (Ribes oxyacanthoides)
The Canadian Gooseberry, also known as Northern Gooseberry, is a resilient deciduous shrub native to North America, spanning from Alaska through much of Canada and into the western and north-central United States. The branches are covered in dense small spines, giving them a cool appearance. The fruit are just over half an inch in size and can range in color from green to reddish when ripe.
As a native species, it plays an important role in supporting local ecosystems and pollinators. This plant can thrive in diverse conditions from moist riparian areas to rocky or sandy soils, making it a low maintenance choice.
