Boxelder, or Manitoba Maple (Acer negundo), is a fast growing North American tree that tolerates moist, dry, rocky, and disturbed soils.
Like other maples, Boxelder can be tapped for syrup. The Assiniboine Food Forest in Brandon taps local trees each spring, demonstrating a traditional use that is often overlooked in this common prairie species.
