Box Elder, which is commonly called Manitoba maple in Canada are a native fast growing shade tree. They're a great establishment tree, able to grow in harsh conditions and quickly produce a wide canopy. These trees are common in city yards and along streets. Our old farmyard has a few Box elder that are over 100 years old and 3' wide.
The sprawling branches of the Box Elder have a very wide spreading habit. The seeds are great food for squirrels and birds. Trees often grow as wide as they will tall and create an incredible amount of shade. One of the fastest growing shade trees in our cold climate. Keep pruned to a single trunk for larger healthier tree.
We have 2 year old seedling trees available.
