Bogatyr Pear Tree

The Bogatyr pear, named for the mighty heroes of Russian folklore, is a historically significant cultivar developed in mid-20th century Russia to thrive in cold, often unforgiving climates.  It is widely believed that Bogatyr was refined through careful selection of heritage Russian pears and improved lines. Its breeding focused on hardiness, ensuring the tree’s resilience against common diseases and harsh conditions while producing large, elongated fruit with smooth yellow-green skin and exceptionally crisp, juicy flesh. Its naturally sweet, complex flavor stands apart from more ordinary pears, and its enduring presence in Eastern European orchards reflects its heritage and reliable productivity as a truly remarkable pear.

We've been growing this pear at our nursery to evaluate it and it survived its first winter.   Other Russian pears have proven to be fully zone 3 hardy and we suspect this one may be as well.
