Beaked Hazelnut (Corylus cornuta)

Beaked Hazelnut  gets its name from its unique fruit with small, edible hazelnuts encased in a bristly, beak-shaped husk. These nuts ripen in late summer to early fall and are very popular with the squirrels, and  they’re tasty if you get to them first!

This native shrub grows incredibly well in the shade, and it dominates the understory in the forest around our nursery growing in thick stands.  Makes an excellent native hedge, wildlife friendly. Where the bushes get good sun exposure you'll get more nuts.
