The Battleford apple, introduced in 1945 from North Battleford, Saskatchewan, is known for its cold-hardy nature, making it suitable for growing in colder, northern areas. The apple is large, yellow splashed with red, ideal for cooking and also suitable for eating and juicing. It has pale, yellowish-green fruit with a dull red blush, and the flesh is fairly crisp and slightly tart. The Battleford apple is moderately good for storing and grows up to 3 inches (7 1/2 cm) wide. It's a unique variety, great for sauce, and it has greenish-yellow skin with red flushes and yellowish, coarsely-textured flesh.

Ripens: Late August / Early September
Size: Up to 3 inches (7 1/2 cm) wide
Cold Hardiness Zone: 2
