Apples:

Royalty: This decorative apple variety, originating from Russian breeding efforts, is known for its medium height of about 6 meters and striking red, purple, or bronze foliage. It is often used in landscape design for its aesthetic appeal across all seasons.

September Ruby (zn 2): Introduced in 1986 by the Canadian Agricultural Research Station, this variety is celebrated for its dessert qualities, offering a crunchy and juicy texture with a sub-acid flavor that surpasses Red Delicious.

Sunrise (zn 3): Bred at the Summerland Research Station in Canada during the 1990s, Sunrise apples are crisp and juicy with a balanced sweet and sharp taste. Their yellow-green skin is adorned with red stripes, making them visually appealing as well as delicious.

Crabapples:

Chestnut Crabapple (zn 2): This variety offers attractive features year-round, with vibrant foliage in summer and fall, fruit around September, and white flowers in spring. The fruits are relatively large for crabapples, with a sweet, nutty flavor, and the trees can reach up to 25 feet in height. Developed at the University of Minnesota in 1949, Chestnut Crabapples are known for their rich flavor and versatility in cooking and fresh eating.

Kerr Crabapple: Bred in Canada, Kerr is celebrated for its versatility and ability to endure harsh winters. It is a dark purple-red crab-apple, sized between five to seven centimeters in diameter, and is excellent for jelly, juice, baking, and even fresh eating. Kerr Crabapples have a sweet-tart flavor and are known for their firm, crisp, and juicy texture. They are mid-season fruits, available around early October, and have an excellent keeping ability of up to 6 months when refrigerated

Prairie Fire (zn 3): A crabapple variety known for its vibrant pink-dark flowers, red fruits, and attractive dark bronze to orange/gold autumn foliage. It's appreciated for its good disease resistance and appeal to wildlife, particularly birds.

Spring Snow (zn 3): A fruitless crabapple known for its spectacular display of fragrant white blooms in spring. It grows to a height of 20-25 feet with a spread of 15-20 feet, providing a crisp and clean appearance with excellent resistance to rust and mildew. It's a low-maintenance tree that adds beauty to the landscape throughout the year.

Radiant: A flowering crabapple variety known for its deep reddish-pink flowers in spring and bright red fruit in fall. It matures to a height and spread of 20-30 feet, offering year-round visual interest with its showy flowers, colorful fruit, and winter silhouette.

Makamik (zn 3): The Makamik is primarily known as an ornamental crabapple with a robust, rounded form, featuring semi-double rose-red blooms in mid-spring and glossy dark purple leaves. It is highly resistant to diseases and can withstand harsh conditions, making it a hardy choice for landscaping rather than consumption.
