american hazelnut, collected a few big shopping bags this fall for seed. here I’m checking them over and bagging into seed packs. hazelnut are sort of borderline recalcitrant, so you need fresh ones. I have them at room temp air dried just to get them out of the husks, them for winter storage will have then in poly bags in a fridge. #seedsaving

Wild American Hazelnut Seeds (Corylus americana) - 8 Seeds
Wild American Hazelnut Seeds (Corylus americana) - 8 Seeds
We have fresh American Hazelnut seeds available. Float tested to remove empty seeds, which this year was about half in this wild population. Hazel is a shrub that makes clusters of small hazel nuts inside frilly, papery husks that ripen in late summer to early fall. They attract wildlife, especially squirrels, and they're good to eat. Around our forest they grow well in the shade and can make a dense understory, but they'll produce more nuts where they get full sun.
Seed Source: Manitoba
