Alpine Currant is a hardy, compact deciduous shrub native to Central and Northern Europe. It has a dense, rounded form and is useful for hedging, foundation plantings, mixed borders, and other landscape plantings.
The bright green, lobed leaves turn soft yellow in fall. Small yellow green spring flowers are inconspicuous, and female plants may produce small red summer berries that are generally not considered edible. Alpine Currant is dioecious, so separate male and female plants are needed for fruit production.
It grows in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a range of soil types, including poor or compacted soil. It is notably resistant to powdery mildew.
Cold Hardiness Zone: 2
Mature Size: 3-6 ft tall and wide
