'Adams' Elderberry is a old and widely grown variety, known for its large, sweet berries and robust growth. Developed in the early 20th century. The berries are medium to large, deep purple to black, and ripen in late summer, typically from August to September. They are ideal for making elderberry syrup, jams, jellies, and wine due to their rich flavor and high juice content.

The shrub itself is vigorous and hardy, reaching a mature size of 8-10 feet in height and width, with an upright, spreading habit. It produces abundant, showy clusters of creamy white flowers in early summer, which are highly attractive to pollinators like bees and butterflies. These flowers eventually give way to large clusters of berries that are easy to harvest.

It grows best in full sun to partial shade and thrives in moist, well-drained soils. While 'Adams' is partially self-fertile, planting it with another cultivar like 'York' can improve pollination and increase fruit yields.
