Propagation by Cuttings: Winter Field Notes
Field note
temporary setup for hardening off newly rooted plants
temporary setup for hardening off newly rooted plants. every day or two I advance the trays forward until they’re into the sun and out of the mist. they’re also fertilized to help kick start some growth. given 1-2 weeks the small pots fill up with roots and some new growth starts, then they’re ready to plant into beds until next fall (2024). some things like fast growing currants or grapes could be acceptable size to ship this fall, trying to decide if I should grade them for size and offer some p+0 this winter. For sure most trees and shrubs propagated from softwood need a full year, some seedlings need 2 #propagation
