Fruit Tree Grafting: Fall Field Notes
Field note · September 2026
Sweet mountain ash fruit on Saskatoon rootstock
sweet mountain ash, finally got to try them. this is a selection with larger fruit, and my review is that they've good - you can eat them fresh off the tree and they're crisp, a mild flavour between apple and something maybe pomegranate, the skin is mild, no sort of astringency you would expect from berries that are usually left for the birds. actually good and interesting, a novelty. here I grafted some onto saskatoon a few years ago and the graft is about six ft tall, an interesting graft compatibility.
