Seed Stratification and Germination: Winter Field Notes
Field note
black spruce (left) and white spruce cones
black spruce (left) and white spruce cones. The black spruce cones are quite small and round, which can make them easy to identify next to white spruce, which always have a long narrow shape. The different between the trees as well, is generally that white spruce will have a wider broader shape, more spreading branches than black spruce.
