Haskap Seeds (Lonicera caerulea, Honeyberry) - Zone 3 - 100+ Seeds
Honeyberry, also known as Haskap, is a native shrub that grows edible purple blue fruit. We grow several cultivars of these at our nursery from breeding program, and seeds are another interesting way to grow them and produce similar plants, with some variability in characteristics like upright growth, fruit size, flavour, ripening time. The variability from seed grown berries add genetic diversity to your garden and improves cross pollination.
Haskap bushes grows up to 4-6 feet, they have elongated, blue-green leaves and produces small, tubular yellow flowers in early spring. The flowers develop into dark blue, edible berries that resemble tart elongated blueberries. They're easier to grow than blueberries and can grow in soil with a neutral pH. Haskap berries ripen very early in the spring, usually in May or June. They prefer full sun to partial shade. Known for their hardiness, Honeyberries can withstand harsh Canadian winters, making them an excellent choice for northern gardeners. The berries are rich in antioxidants and have a unique, tart flavor.
