The Scout Apricot, a cold-resistant cultivar, was developed in Morden, Manitoba in 1937. This medium-sized tree is known for its yellow, round fruit with golden overtones and orange flesh. The fruits are described as bronze gold, blushed with red, which makes them visually appealing. They are good for canning and jam, but only fair for fresh eating. The Scout Apricot blooms with showy pink flowers in early spring, typically in early May. It's notable that this variety produces more fruit when a pollinator is present, underlining its dependency on cross-pollination for optimal fruit production. The tree requires full sun and can be affected by late spring frosts. Known also as Manchurian apricot, it is native to Northeast China, Korea, and Manchuria, illustrating its adaptability to cold climates.
