Honeygold Apple Tree
Honeygold Apple Tree
The Honeygold apple is a hybrid variety developed by the University of Minnesota, released in 1969. It is a cross between the Golden Delicious and Haralson apple varieties. Honeygold apples are medium to large in size, with a round conical shape and a bright golden color. They are known for their sweet, honey-like flavor. The skin of the Honeygold apple is smooth, golden-yellow to greenish, with a red-bronze blush. This apple variety is particularly cold-hardy, making it suitable for northern cold areas. It can tolerate temperatures as low as -50 degrees Fahrenheit and is successful in USDA Hardiness Zone 3. The fruit's flavor is somewhat similar to Golden Delicious but is noted to be a bit blander, described by some as "Golden Delicious with honey on it." The Honeygold apple is also appreciated for its high quality and superior storage qualities, making it an excellent substitute for Golden Delicious in colder regions.
